Pride and Politics, by Brittany Larsen (and a Giveaway!)

One of the things I love most about being an author is having author friends that I love and admire. It’s so fun to walk this path with writers I can learn from and have fun with. My dear friend, and fellow Covenant author, Brittany Larsen is no exception. Her debut novel, Pride and Politics, just hit the shelves and I’m totally stoked to tell you about it.

Pride and PoliticsAs the daughter of a well-known senator, Summer Knight is all too familiar with the nasty side of politics. She’s always stayed out of the drama, until an incident involving her fellow Mormons drives her out of her hometown—and out of the Church. What she needs is a change of scene, and sunny California seems like just the place.

Enter Benson Hardy. He’s just her type—until she finds out who he is. Not only is Benson a nephew to her father’s political rival, he’s also a devout member of the Church. The last thing Summer wants is to be mixed up in politics—or religion. But Benson challenges her like no one else, asking the tough questions about her inactivity. Though their incompatibility is clear, their connection is undeniable, and soon Summer finds the embers of her faith reigniting. Just as it seems that the pair might be on the road to romance, a series of embarrassing misunderstandings—and the appearance of a handsome charmer determined to sweep Summer off her feet—knock the couple completely off course. As Summer finds herself at a crossroads, she must decide if she’s willing to set her pride aside for a shot at true love.

Brittany’s writing is clever and witty and so fun. If you’re a Jane Austen fan, it’s fun to see 12657436_797790563687230_806852708837214012_othis modern day version of a classic story. If you don’t know Jane Austen, I still think you’ll love the political bantering and great character development. I highly recommend this novel for fans of LDS romance. Also, I’d love to give you a copy! Signed by Brittany, no less. I’d also love to include a signed copy of Love at First Note, by yours truly. (If you already have this one, I’ve heard it makes an EXCELLENT gift.) If you want an additional chance to win, Brittany is currently giving away a similar prize on her Facebook Author Page. A Little In Love With You: A Love at First Note novella

Emma Hill, the female protagonist in Love at First Note, isn’t the only one with a great love story. Her roommate and best friend, Lilly, has her own story to tell–about the fateful day that she met Trav, and the huge misunderstanding that almost ended their chances before their relationship even began.

I’m so excited for readers to enjoy Lilly and Trav’s story in my latest novella, A Little in Love With you. For a limited time, the novella is available exclusively on Amazon for only $.99. That’s pennies, guys. I hope you’ll read and review and share with others.

Lilly has all but given up on her love life. It’s been ages since she’s even seen a smile from a guy, much less had a real conversation. Until she meets Travis–cute, in the hippie rugged way she likes, quirky, funny, charming, and completely NOT eligible. Expectant fathers on the labor and delivery floor of the hospital where she works generally aren’t. Plus, a guy that would hit on a nurse while his wife is in labor? Yeah. Don’t date that guy.

But there’s more to Trav’s story than Lilly first understands. Older brothers can be supportive too, after all. Despite their rocky start, and an old flame that just won’t fizzle out already, Lilly and Trav hang onto their hopes that maybe, they really can have a future together.

Love at First Note Grand Prize Giveaway

It’s been a busy book launch month so far, but we’re not quite finished yet! And this next giveaway? It’s most my favorite ever. Love at First Note is a book all about music, so I wanted to pull together a collection of prizes that celebrate great music and the role it can play in our lives. (Also, great chocolate. It’s in the book, but even if it wasn’t, do we need an actual reason to celebrate great chocolate?)

2 lucky winners will receive the following:

  • One signed copy of Love at First Note
  • One signed copy of pianist, William Joseph‘s latest album, Be Still
  • One signed copy of violinist Aaron Ashton‘s latest album, Split the Difference
  • One original playlist of the songs and sounds of Love at First Note
  • One 6 piece box of Truffles of assorted flavors from French Broad Chocolates in Asheville, NC

So let’s talk about the prizes a little, yeah?

Love at First Note. Obviously, I’m a fan. Hopefully you don’t need me to give you a reason for why I included this one.

William Joseph’s Be Still. I’ve always loved William Joseph’s music, but just for the sake of the book, his style and approach to music is similar to what I imagined for Elliott when writing Love at First Note. (Elliott is more a cross between William Joseph and the Piano Guys… though William might take the edge in comparisons. I mean, he and Elliott have the same hair, and we all know how important THAT is.) The album included in the giveaway is a personal favorite. It’s a collection of hymns: my go-to “calm my soul and sooth my weary heart” music.

Aaron Ashton’s Split the Difference. Year’s ago, Aaron Ashton did some missionary work on my side of the country and got to know my family pretty well. He’s an incredibly talented and accomplished violinist and I love the music on this album. The back of the album reads . . . about that place between violin and fiddle. And it’s a really great place. To me, it sounds like my home. Like my mountains and the traditions and history that exist here. I’d love to know what it sounds like to you!

The original Love at First Note Playlist. To be fair, I couldn’t include ALL the classical music mentioned in the book. It would take four hours to do so. So I borrowed my sister’s brain and whittled it down to a sampling. I can’t stop listening to it myself. Such amazing music.

French Broad Chocolates. Emma and her sister, Ava, visit the French Broad Chocolate Lounge in the book–a place that is very real and very delicious. It’s my favorite date night hang out. Their truffle flavors are amazing and different and totally unexpected and I can’t wait to share.

So! You know you want to enter. There are lots of ways to do so thanks to Rafflecopter, including one, very free, very easy, very “you don’t have to share anything anywhere” way. (I do hope you will share, though. It matters.)
