I like to joke with my husband about how, when he was graduating from high school, I was finishing up the seventh grade. He didn’t know me then (better for us both, I’m sure) but I had a good time writing Alec and Evie’s story because Alec DID know Evie when she was young. Then he didn’t see her for lots of years and had to adjust his brain to make room for a new, grown-up version of his little sister’s best friend.

How do you feel about age gaps? If you’re in a relationship, are you older? Younger? Does it ever come up or do you mostly not notice? Do you love them or hate them in books?

In the early days of our marriage, I tried to convince my husband that Garth Brooks was more famous than Michael Jackson because I was just a tiny bit too young to have experienced the MAGNITUDE that was the peak of Michael Jackson’s fame. Josh just patted me on the head like, “You poor clueless thing…” lol
